Can i put oil on a plant麓s leaves.....?

i do not know what kind of plant it is, except that it has long smooth leaves and has a trunk like a palm. i just want to make it look shinier, but i do not want to harm it.Can i put oil on a plant麓s leaves.....?

They make a product called leaf shiner, but, I have used baby oil and it didn't hurt them. It does collect dust though. The leaf shiner would be best.
Yes, I did it before make sure it is a natural oil like corn or vegetable oil. The plant is still shiny it has been over a month.
