Can we use any of the different kinds of plant oil in tanning a homemade leather?

i've known that we can alter fish oil by plant oil in tanning a homemade leather,but which and what kind of plant oil?Can we use any of the different kinds of plant oil in tanning a homemade leather?
Cottonseed oil, castor oil or olive oil can be used to substitute cod oil.
